Monday, Dec. 1 – Gr. 7-8 Water Colour Collections – Gr. 9-10 – Personal Portfolio

Gr. 7-8 – Watercolour – Negative Space Painting (phase two) and water colour collection

Please note: we are doing our Personal Portfolio work on Tuesday, Dec. 2 (not today as originally planned).

Before you sit down:

  • Get a computer: log in to Edsby, read your comments (and reply)
  • Get a volunteer to start handing back assignments (on Mr. Ewert’s desk with sticky label)
  • Grab what you need for watercolour

What you are working on today:

  1. Negative space – complete you 2nd layer of the painting
  2. make sure you are done your bookmarks and watercolour techniques page
  3. then, go on to your personal choice projects (see links below)

Watercolour Choice Projects:

The Water Colour Personal Project Collection is a collection of your work in the water colour medium. This does not include your bookmarks (they are a separate assignment worth less marks than your collection). Your collection DOES include your negative space painting, plus, all pieces that you decide to do that you have chosen.

You might choose to do some of the videos in the link below, or, you may find your own of your own choice, or, you may do your own work.

Criteria for the Water Colour Personal Project Collection:

  • You must have pieces that reflect about 2.5 hours of consistent work in the water colour medium
  • You must have an array of different water colour techniques (try out different ideas, styles, etc.)
  • Your projects must include the traditional outcomes from the art rubric
    • CREATIVITY, CRAFTSMANSHIP, USE OF MATERIALS

Gr. 9-10 – Acrylic Personal Collection (work time)

Before you sit down:

Get what you need to work on for your acrylic collection

This collection will include:

  • Your 3 blending of colour with silhouettes (the practice ones)
  • Your canvas piece
  • Additional pieces that you experimented with in the “acrylic collection work periods

Time spent/expected = 5 hours

  • Breakdown
    • Tuesday, Nov. 25 = 1 hour of time for silhouettes
    • Wed.-Thurs, Nov. 26-27 = 2 hours of time for canvas paint
    • Mn.-Tues (Dec. 1-2) = 2 hours of “additional pieces” (or you might be working on details from your canvas)
      • TOTAL = 5 hours for project

Friday, Nov. 28 – GR. 7-8 Watercolour Neg. Space Painting (phase one) – Gr. 9-10 Personal Portfolio (Week 9)

Toda is a work period continuing from yesterday.

Grab what you need for watercolour (same as yesterday including cups of rice, salt, etc. [one per table])

Gr. 9-10 – Acrylic Projects

Grab what you need for Acrylic projects and continue your work from yesterday

Note: we are working on Personal Portfolios tomorrow. Plan for what project you are working on and let and be ready for Mr. Ewert to ask you about it (your plans)

Wednesday, Nov. 26 – Gr. 7-8 Water Colour Bookmarks – Gr. 9-10 – Acrylic Silhouettes

Gr. 7-8 – Water Colour Techniques

Today we are working with water colour to make book marks.

Materials you will need today:

  • Supplies you must have a partner to share with (find someone)
    • water colour paints
    • two cups water – one for cleaning brush, one for clean water
    • paper towel roll
    • pencil set
    • eraser
    • white glue
    • artist’s tape
    • ruler
    • pipette/dropper
    • cup rice
    • cup salt
  • Ind. supplies
    • a wide brush and a medium brush
    • 1 piece of art paper
    • 1 piece of scrap paper
    • 1 piece seran wrap (careful, don’t crumple it)
    • 1 paint well tray (if you wish to dilute and mix)
    • pipette/dropper

Tuesday, Nov. 25 – Gr. 7-8 – Water Colour techniques – Gr. 9-10 Acrylic Paint Silhouettes

Gr. 7-8 – Water Colour Techniques

Before you sit down:

Get all that you need for watercolour

  • watercolour tray (1 per 2 students where/when possible)
  • I cup with water
  • I roll paper per table (for drying brushes)
  • brushes – grab at least one small and one larger and/or thicker brush
  • scrap papers for testing (and one for your final Response/Reflection (see sample below)
    • When you are done please label title and label your Response/Reflection, put on drying rack, into your folder tomorrow

This is much like the techniques of India Ink. You don’t have to do all the ones shown below, you just need to experiment and then put on the card the names you feel are appropriate. Try out the india ink methods and then create some of your own.

When you are done, try some additional water colour pieces of your own choosing. Try some youtube project, make some of your own etc.

Gr. 9-10 – Acrylic Pant Silhouettes

Before you sit down:

Grab your colour mixes from last week.

Today you are going to work on some silhouettes to place in front. You can choose almost anything and you can use acrylic paint or india ink.

This is all preparing for the final piece where you will use some actual canvas material for a details finished project.

Friday, Nov. 21 – Gr. 7-8 and Gr. 9-10 – Personal Portfolio (Gr. 7-8 – week 3, Gr. 9-10 – week 8)

Gr. 7-8 – Hand in India Ink Collection and work on Personal Portfolio (Week 3)

Before you sit down:

Get all your India Ink Personal Collection artwork together, grab a rubric, fill it out, attach, and hand in (middle front of table at the front of the classroom)

Get out your Personal Portfolio Journal, fill it out (what you are working on today) and begin your work.

Your teacher (substitute) will be rotating the room to check out your journal, your current work, and to help get you what you need.

Note: be sure to fill in the last part of your journal before the end of class. Your substitute will be looking to initial them.

Gr. 9-10 – Personal Portfolio (week 8)

Before you sit down:

Get out your Personal Portfolio Journal, fill it out (what you are working on today) and begin your work.

Thursday, Nov. 20 – Gr. 7-8 India Ink Personal Project Collection work time – Gr. 9-10 Acrylic Techniques and Basic Mixing

Gr. 7-8 – India Ink Personal Collection

Before you sit down:

Get everything you need for using India Ink. Today you are continuing with your india ink collection (which you will hand in on tomorrow (Friday, Nov. 21).

Time you have to work on this project:

You started yesterday and got about 30 min. of work time on your tree. Today you get the full hour to work. Tomorrow you get a final hour to complete your collection. So, you should easily have at least 2 hours of work in your “collection” to hand in when it is due on Friday, Nov. 21st.

Criteria you must follow in your India Ink Personal Collection (handing in as a collection):

  • Your pieces must use both fountain pen and brush
  • You must be using multiple values
  • You must experiment with multiple methods (like those we did in the value card)
  • PLEASE NOTE: you are going to have 2 and 1/2 hours of class time to complete this collection (today, tomorrow, and half of Thursday). This means that your collection of work (piece #1 will be your tree [today]) must represent 2 1/2  hours of work time. You should have time for at least 2-4 pieces depending on the amount of time and attention you are giving to each project.

Gr. 9-10 – Acrylic Paint – Mixing and Blending Colours

Before you sit down (get your supplies):

  • wear an old shirt or an apron to protect your clothing (optional but a good idea)
  • One palette (looks like clear plastic and fits in your hand (for mixing paint)
  • Some brushes (small to large)
  • Paper towel
  • cup of water
  • A “glop” (about size of your thumb) of each of the primary colours
  • 2 palet knives (they look like a trowel)

More things you will need (especially for today):

  • Grab a large board (they are on the East wall under the “no name” box
  • Get 3 small pieces of art paper (front table)

Video we are following for this project today

when following this video, you are not splitting a large canvas like the artist in the vid. You are using 3 different pieces of small art paper. You may wish to tape your paper down. if you wish to do that, use the painter’s tape (front table) to tape the corners.

Wednesday, Nov. 19 – Gr. 7-8 – India Ink Personal Collection work time – Gr. 9-10 Acrylic Paint – Mixing the Colour Wheel

Before you sit down:

Get everything you need for using India Ink (don’t forget an old shirt or to wear an apron – that stuff STAINS!!!)

If you haven’t handed in your Value Card yet, get it down first, and hand it in.

Time you have to work on this project:

Before you sit down (get your supplies):

  • label your colour wheel as Response/Reflection – Term 2 #1

When you are done:

Attempt some basic colour mixing in preparation for our item tomorrow. This next, we are looking to work on colour-blending and silhouette projects.

Gr. 7-8 – India Ink Tree and Beyond

Before you sit down:

Get everything you need for using India Ink (don’t forget an old shirt or to wear an apron – that stuff STAINS!!!)

Today:

We are doing trees together using the techniques studied yesterday. Check out the videos on yesterday’s post to follow along.

When we are finished our trees (yesterday’s post), then you have today and Monday for looking into personal choice projects using India Ink. You can choose from some of the projects below, or you can go “total freedom” and do additional pieces of your own choice. Explore what you can do and what you are interested in.

Criteria you must follow in your personal projects (handing in as a collection):

  • Your pieces must use both fountain pen and brush
  • You must be using multiple values
  • You must experiment with multiple methods (like those we did in the value card)
  • PLEASE NOTE: you are going to have 2 and 1/2 hours of cllass time to complete this collection (today, tomorrow, and half of Thursday).
