Review – Acrylic Studio Time

Gr. 7-8 –Basic Line – RR #2 and Acrylic Blending Gradient

Before you sit down:

  • Get 2 pieces of scrap paper
    • label one of them “Response/Reflection #2”
  • Pencils for sketching
  • Get a large board (under the “no name” box)
  • Get 2 small pieces of canvas
  • Use painter’s tape to tape the tips of the four corners onto the board (board landscape and canvas portrait)

Response/Reflection #2:

  • Response/Reflection #2: We are going to review our stick people (#2) and get ready for the next level of sketching people
    • Watch the 2 videos below and follow along with Mr. Ewert (if you were absent, you will need to do this on your own)

Blending Acrylic for a Gradient:

  • We will watch the video together, get some pointers, then experiment
    • practice on scrap paper first
    • Then pick 2 sets of colours and move to canvas

Before you sit down:

  • Materials to get:
    • …a few different levels of pencil, eraser, and sharpener,
    • …india ink pen and some ink
    • …a piece of art paper (the nicer card-stock stuff)
    •  …a ruler

Today:

  • We are doing a formal lesson on cross-hatching (video and direct instruction – recreation) – Mr. Ewert will walk us through half and then you can do the second half at your own pace
  • You will be completing TWO drawing for this assignment:
    • 1) – pencil cross-hatching drawing of a mug
    • 2) – ink cross-hatching drawing of a mu(g (using fountain pen and ink)

Gr. 11-12 – Shading Basic Forms

Before you sit down:

  • Get a computer and read the blog carefully to be sure you are aware of what is expected
  • Check Edsby for any messages – what was the last message Mr. Ewert sent you about?
  • Check Edsby for any due dates
    • Do you have anything overdue? If so, what?
    • What are the next two things that are due?
  • What are we doing tomorrow and Monday?
  • Supplies you will need for today:
    • pencils – get an a few different number pencils (they range from 8h, 6h, 4h, 2h, hb, 2b, 4b, 6b, and 8b)
    • eraser and sharpener
    • scrap paper
    • each table will need one lamp, one computer, and five unique 3d shapes/forms (at least one curved)

Shading Basic Forms:

Mr. Ewert will give you some initial instruction, followed by individual work time

  • This is a small assignment that has two parts:
  • You will have today and one additional studio time hour this coming week

  • Make a unique human pose, spend 2-3 min sketching the pose as best you can.
  • No need to draw the individual pieces of the model, just focus on getting the basic human form down.
  • Complete 5 poses of the figure (should take about 15 min.)
