Review – Acrylic Studio Time

Before you sit down:

• Get what you need for acrylic paint. Be aware of what you should have so far (see list below from “what we did this week”

• Wednesday – RR #2 and Acrylic Blending (likely just started)

Gr. 11-12 – Shading Basic Forms Part II

Before you sit down:

• Supplies to get:
  • lamp for your table
  • pencils, eraser etc for sketching
  • 5 unique shape forms for sketching
• What to do:
  • Set up for Part II of your Shading Basic Forms assignment

Today:

• Last week you likely completed Part I of shading Basic Forms and today you are doing Part II
• Assignment:
  • Part I: Drawing solids with shading from the video
    •

Gr. 7-8 –Basic Line – RR #2 and Acrylic Blending Gradient

Before you sit down:

• Get 2 pieces of scrap paper
  • label one of them “Response/Reflection #2”
• Pencils for sketching
• Get a large board (under the “no name” box)
• Get 2 small pieces of canvas
• Use painter’s tape to tape the tips of the four corners onto the board (board landscape and canvas portrait)

Response/Reflection #2:

• Response/Reflection #2: We are going to review our stick people (#2) and get ready for the next level of sketching people
  • Watch the 2 videos below and follow along with Mr. Ewert (if you were absent, you will need to do this on your own)

Blending Acrylic for a Gradient:

• We will watch the video together, get some pointers, then experiment
  • practice on scrap paper first
  • Then pick 2 sets of colours and move to canvas

Gr. 11-12 – Cross-Hatching Mug (pen shading)

Before you sit down:

• Materials to get:
  • …a few different levels of pencil, eraser, and sharpener,
  • …india ink pen and some ink
  • …a piece of art paper (the nicer card-stock stuff)
  •  …a ruler

Today:

• We are doing a formal lesson on cross-hatching (video and direct instruction – recreation) – Mr. Ewert will walk us through half and then you can do the second half at your own pace
• You will be completing TWO drawing for this assignment:
  • 1) – pencil cross-hatching drawing of a mug
  • 2) – ink cross-hatching drawing of a mu(g (using fountain pen and ink)

• Individual Assignment (Acrylic unit) – Today we are going to start blending acrylic paints on paper (practicing for canvas after spring break)

• Response/Reflection #1: We are going to review our stick people and get ready for the next level of sketching people
  • watching parts of the video below – repeat the stages and then do 5 dynamic poses similar to stage 5

Before you sit down:

• Fill out your Personal Portfolio Journal for Week #6 and have on your desk for Mr. Ewert to review
• Get the supplies you need or ask Mr. Ewert if you have any special requests (materials you need help with or haven’t already used.
• Be sure to get your “hour in an hour” of studio time

Gr. 7-8 – Portfolio Presentations and Art Room Tidy

Before you sit down:

• Get what you need for your presentation and assessments.
• Make sure that your Portfolios are handed in to Mr. Ewert
  • Did you present yesterday and forget?

Today:

• We are finishing out final presentations and then doing a tidy of the art supplies. To help us organize, please log into a computer, access the tidy list at this link, then choose a job, put your name, complete it, mark is as ‘done’…next job.
• I bet we will have it spotless in no time!

Gr. 11-12 – Shading Basic Forms

Before you sit down:

• Get a computer and read the blog carefully to be sure you are aware of what is expected
• Check Edsby for any messages – what was the last message Mr. Ewert sent you about?
• Check Edsby for any due dates
  • Do you have anything overdue? If so, what?
  • What are the next two things that are due?
• What are we doing tomorrow and Monday?
• Supplies you will need for today:
  • pencils – get an a few different number pencils (they range from 8h, 6h, 4h, 2h, hb, 2b, 4b, 6b, and 8b)
  • eraser and sharpener
  • scrap paper
  • each table will need one lamp, one computer, and five unique 3d shapes/forms (at least one curved)

Shading Basic Forms:

Mr. Ewert will give you some initial instruction, followed by individual work time

• This is a small assignment that has two parts:
  • Part I: Drawing solids with shading from the video

• Get a paper and label it “Response/Refection #9 – Draw Basic Forms” plus your name and the date (March 18)
  • Today we are following the basics of this video (Mr. Ewert will demonstrate and those absent can watch the video

  • Today: we discussed that we need more time for this project. I will ensure that we have at least 2 hours of studio time this coming week

    • Note: it is short and quick, so you will likely need to pause it and catch up

Gr. 11-12 – Portfolio Presentation Work Time (presentations tomorrow, Thur., Fri)

Gr. 11-12 – RR # 7 and Stencil Cuts (studio time)

Before you sit down:

• What is your job this week?

• Get a piece of scrap paper
  • label it Response/Reflection #7 – Human Forms 2.0 … and today’s date (March 16)
• Get what you need for your stencil cut work
• Personal Portfolios – hand ’em in

RR #7

• Make a unique human pose, spend 2-3 min sketching the pose as best you can.
• No need to draw the individual pieces of the model, just focus on getting the basic human form down.
• Complete 5 poses of the figure (should take about 15 min.)
