Wednesday, Nov. 12 – Gr. 7-8 Introduction to India Ink (Value Card Assignment) – Gr. 9-10 Cross-Hatching Basic Assignment (Mug)

Gr. 7-8 – India Ink – intro and Value Card Assignment

Before you sit down:

  • old shirt (to wear so you don’t get ink on your nice clothes)
    • you may use an art apron too (hanging at the front)
  • 1 small piece of water colour paper
  • 1 regular size piece of copy paper (scrap paper for testing on)
  • 1 small brush
  • 1 fountain pen set (in the white plastic bags)
  • 1 dropper (called a “pipette”)
  • 1 paint well tray
  • two cups of water (per table is likely good)
  • one inch stack of paper towel per table (or a roll)
  • a few drops of India Ink (Mr. Ewert will come around to help you when you are seated and ready

When you sit down…

Assemble your fountain pen, dip the head, and start experimenting with making basic lines on your scrap paper

When you are ready to move on…start creating the outline below. BTW – don’t worry about drawing the glass globe part (unless you want to)

Gr. 9-10 – Cross-Hatching (Mug Assignment)

Before you sit down:

  • Grab a computer to access the video
  • Grab what you need for pencil sketching
  • Grab everything you will need for using a fountain pen with India Ink
    • get ink later after you have completed your pencil drawing
  • Grab a piece of art paper (far left of table)
    • using a pencil and ruler, divide your paper in half by drawing one pencil line across the centre so that there is a top-half and a bottom-half (paper is portrait, not landscape)

Assignment Directions:

  • You will be completing TWO drawing for this assignment:
    • 1) – pencil cross-hatching drawing of a mug
    • 2) – ink cross-hatching drawing of a mu(g (using fountain pen and ink)
      • rationale – this will provide you ample practice and a chance to “get it right” on the second pass when you are committing to ink
  • Watch the video carefully for directions (follow along in class with Mr. Ewert)
    • complete your pencil sketch
  • Then watch again independently (if you feel you need to watch again) and complete your ink drawing
